Engineering Science

This three-year, fully English-taught programme at Politecnico di Milano offers an interdisciplinary engineering education combining science, engineering, computing, and systems thinking.

Students develop strong skills in:

• Mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics, and computer science.

• Scientific computing, numerical simulation, data analysis, and modelling.

• Problem formulation, analytical reasoning, and solution evaluation.

• Integrating knowledge from industrial, information, and civil-environmental engineering.

• Technical communication, teamwork, and collaboration in international environments.

The curriculum progresses through three stages:

1. CORE: Common foundations in basic sciences, computing, and engineering.

2. DIRECTION: Elective courses introducing areas such as mechanics, electronics, fluid dynamics, and systems control.

3. FOCUS: Third-year specialisation in a selected engineering domain.

The programme concludes with an interdisciplinary Capstone Project, potentially conducted with research groups or industry partners.

Graduates earn 180 ECTS and are prepared for advanced studies or entry-level roles in technological innovation, digitalisation, sustainability, engineering analysis, and data analysis.

Italian secondary school leaving qualification or other comparable foreign qualification (level 4 EQF)

Admission to Bachelor of Science programmes requires a five-year or four-year upper secondary school diploma, or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad (EQF level 4), recognised as suitable.

Students already enrolled in other degree programmes at Politecnico di Milano or at other universities may apply for transfer to Engineering Science, with possible recognition of previously acquired credits. The Admissions Committee will evaluate each request on a case-by-case basis. Applications positively evaluated may be accepted only if places are available.

Applicants must:

• Pass one admission test: TOL, TOLC-I, CEnT-S, or SAT.

• Demonstrate English proficiency through citizenship, English-medium education, or an accepted English certificate.

Italian is not required for admission. However, students must obtain B2 Italian certification before graduation, unless they qualify through:

• A TOL or TOLC-I score of at least 30/100.

• Italian, San Marino, or Ticino citizenship.

• An upper-secondary qualification completed in Italian.

• Passport or valid ID.

• Class 10 and Class 12 certificates/marksheets.

• Detailed academic records for the last three years of secondary school.

• Final secondary-school diploma, or a certificate confirming final-year enrolment.

• Proof of English proficiency, unless your secondary education was completed in English.

• Valid admission-test result: CEnT-S, SAT, TOL, or TOLC-I.

• Official translations into English or Italian if documents are not already issued in an accepted language.

• Qualification-recognition document, such as a CIMEA Statement of Comparability, Statement of Verification, or Declaration of Value.

• Passport-size photograph and application forms.
