Aeronautical Engineering
Course Description

This two-year, predominantly English-taught programme trains engineers to design, analyse, and manage advanced aerospace systems. It focuses on highly interdisciplinary environments where safety, efficiency, technological innovation, and reliability are essential.

Students gain advanced knowledge of:

  • Aircraft flight dynamics and performance.

  • Aerodynamics and aeroelasticity.

  • Aerospace structures and materials.

  • Aircraft systems and equipment.

  • Aerospace propulsion.

  • Modelling, simulation, design, and research methods.

Programme Structure

First year: Students build a strong common foundation through compulsory courses in atmospheric flight dynamics, aerodynamics, aerospace structures, and aeroelasticity. They also choose one specialised core course and two complementary courses related to aerospace engineering.

Second year: Students customise their academic pathway by selecting courses based on their interests. They may focus more deeply on aeronautical disciplines or explore related fields such as advanced technologies and multidisciplinary aerospace systems. Courses also develop technical writing, presentation, and research skills.

Master’s Thesis: The programme ends with a substantial design-oriented or research-based thesis. It may be completed in collaboration with aerospace companies, research centres, or international institutions.

Graduates can pursue careers in aircraft and spacecraft design, aerodynamics, structural engineering, propulsion, aerospace systems, research and development, testing, and project management. Their skills are also applicable to other industries involving complex, high-technology systems.

Eligibility
  • A foreign Bachelor’s degree equivalent to an Italian first-cycle degree.

  • A qualification and academic background compatible with Aeronautical Engineering.

  • Strong preparation in mathematics, physics, and core aerospace or mechanical engineering.

  • Satisfactory academic performance and relevant qualifications or experience.

  • Adequate English proficiency, as the programme is fully taught in English.

The Evaluation Committee assesses each applicant’s degree comparability, curriculum, grades, and overall preparation.

Requirements
  • Minimum GPA (percentage or weighed score) required for the application is 70 out of 100.
  • We accept at least a 4-year bachelor degree (e.g. B.Tech., B.Eng., B.Des., B.Arch., etc.). A 3-year B.Sc. may be considered only if it is an Honours programme.
  • If you graduated in an Indian university, please upload scanned copies of your original academic transcript or consolidated grade sheet directly issued and certified by your institution. No screenshot will be accepted.
  • Transcript must contain your Grade Point Average (percentage or weighed score) and the grading system applied. If this information are not stated on your transcript, please ask your university or college to provide you with a certified document stating them.
Documents Required
For the MSc in Aeronautical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, prepare: Valid passport. Bachelor’s degree certificate in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related field. Official Bachelor’s transcript, including subjects, grades, credits, and GPA. Detailed course descriptions or syllabus, especially for mathematics, physics, mechanics, aerodynamics, structures, and propulsion. Proof of English proficiency, or an official university letter confirming that the Bachelor’s programme was taught entirely in English. CV and, if requested, a motivation letter. Final-year certificate or expected-graduation letter if the degree is not yet completed. Certified translations into English or Italian if documents are in another language. CIMEA Statement of Comparability or Declaration of Value for degree eligibility. CIMEA Statement of Verification, electronic Apostille, or official university verification for degree authenticity. Any additional academic qualifications or certificates.
