Economics and data analytics for Industry and Policy

MEDIP is a two‑year, full‑time Master’s degree entirely taught in English, designed for students with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Economics (preferably) or related fields. It builds on the department’s strong research tradition, combining advanced expertise in economics, econometrics, and data analysis with an applied, interdisciplinary approach that bridges macro‑ and microeconomics, business dynamics, and legal studies.

Structure

• First year: A common pathway for all students, focused on building solid quantitative and methodological foundations (advanced economics, econometrics, data analysis tools).

• Second year: Students choose one of two specialization tracks:

  1. Industry track

     • Focus: innovation, digital markets, and competition.

     • Skills: Analyzing market and industrial dynamics, assessing the economic impact of business decisions, understanding digitization and competitive strategies.

     • Career paths: Multinational companies, SMEs, regulatory authorities, research offices, and consulting firms, in roles related to strategy, internationalization, and business analysis.

  2. Policy track

     • Focus: evidence‑based analysis and evaluation of public policies.

     • Skills: Using advanced quantitative methods to evaluate policies in areas such as sustainability, energy transition, healthcare, and social policy.

     • Career paths: Public institutions, international organizations, research institutes, and consulting companies, as policy analysts and evaluators.

• Meet minimum curricular requirements in key areas (Economics, Quantitative Methods, Business/Administration, Law, English, Computer Science) – typically expressed in ECTS or equivalent study hours. A small flexibility margin (up to ~10% / 6 ECTS) is usually allowed, except for the English requirement.

• Demonstrate English proficiency at least at B2 level (via recognized certificate or a Bachelor’s fully taught in English).

Admission is not restricted in the sense of a fixed national quota, but the programme evaluates academic background and performance; strong candidates may be admitted directly, while others may need an admission test or committee evaluation.

The committee mainly considers:

• Field of study and relevance to Economics / quantitative fields.

• Transcript details: exams taken, grades, and credits/hours in core areas (micro, macro, econometrics, math, stats, business, etc.).

• Academic performance:

  • For Italian students, direct access is possible with a final Bachelor grade ≥ 95/110 (or, if still studying, ≥ 150 ECTS with weighted average ≥ 25/30). International equivalents are assessed similarly.

• English level and overall profile (CV, motivation, other relevant elements).

If you meet all background requirements but not the merit threshold, you may be asked to take an admission test covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics.

• Bachelor’s degree transcript (official, showing all exams, grades, and credits/hours; if still graduating, include exams taken and those pending).

• Copy of passport.

• Excel mapping file: your exams grouped by subject areas as specified by the programme
