European Master of Science in Health and Physical Activity
Course Description
The European Master of Science in Health and Physical Activity is a two‑year, 120‑ECTS, English‑taught joint program (LM‑67) coordinated by the University of Rome “Foro Italico” in partnership with leading European sport science institutions in Norway, Austria, Denmark, and Germany. It provides an integrated curriculum in movement sciences, biomedicine, psychology, pedagogy, and sociology, with a strong focus on physical activity for health promotion, disease prevention, and rehabilitation across different age groups and clinical conditions.
The first year delivers four intensive teaching modules on basic sciences and health‑related physical activity, while the second year offers specialised internships (e.g. children, adults, elderly, musculoskeletal and orthopaedic rehabilitation, psycho‑pedagogic prevention), plus a 30‑ECTS research thesis. Graduates receive a joint European Master title and corresponding national second‑level degrees, and are trained to autonomously design, implement, and evaluate evidence‑based physical activity programs in public health, clinical rehabilitation, and community wellness settings within a European and international framework.
Eligibility

Applicants must hold at least a 3‑year (180 ECTS) undergraduate degree in the sport science area or an equivalent degree from a European or non‑European university.

Graduates from other disciplines are eligible if they have accrued at least 28 ECTS in relevant areas: 12 ECTS in biomedical subjects, 12 ECTS in physical education/sport/movement sciences and kinesiology, and 4 ECTS in psychological–pedagogical–sociological subjects.

Candidates may apply while completing their bachelor’s degree, provided they will obtain the qualification by the specified autumn deadline and have at least 170 ECTS at the time of application
Requirements

Verified basic knowledge in human biology, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, medical‑clinical and hygienic aspects of physical activity, psychology, pedagogy, and movement techniques/methodologies, as normally acquired in first‑level movement or sport sciences degrees.

Advanced English proficiency (typically level B2–C1) and basic IT skills (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations) are required, as all teaching, exams, essays and the thesis are conducted in English.

Compulsory curriculum requirements: at least 12 ECTS in biomedical subjects, 4 ECTS in psychological–pedagogical–sociological subjects, and 12 ECTS in physical education/sport/movement sciences and kinesiology, with emphasis on adapted and preventive physical activity.

Selection involves an entrance assessment (multiple‑choice test on movement‑science basics, English‑language evaluation, and interview), used to verify requirements and place candidates in the ranking.

Foreign students are exempt from the Italian language test; admission is conditional on meeting the above academic and language criteria and on available places.
