About University of Naples Federico II
The University of Naples Federico II holds a rare distinction: founded in 1224 by Emperor Frederick II specifically to train secular administrators without Church influence, it's considered the world's first state-funded university and one of the ten oldest in continuous operation. Eight centuries later, it's the largest university in Southern Italy, with over 70,000 students across three semi-independent divisions: Science and Technology, Life Sciences, and Social and Human Sciences spanning 13 schools and 82 departments. Its academic range is genuinely comprehensive: Medicine, Engineering, Law, Agriculture, Architecture, Veterinary Medicine, and the Humanities all operate at a scale few universities can match. Federico II ranks among the top 100 universities globally by citations per paper in several fields, and its alumni include three Presidents of the Italian Republic. For students who want the prestige of deep historical pedigree combined with modern research infrastructure and a genuinely low cost of entry  Federico II is hard to beat.
