Founded in 1979, the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (UNICAS) is headquartered in Cassino, near the historic Abbey of Monte Cassino, with additional branch campuses in Frosinone and Gaeta. The university is organized into five departments covering economics and law, civil and mechanical engineering, electrical and information engineering, humanities and philosophy, and human/social/health sciences. UNICAS offers a mix of roughly 37 bachelor's and master's programs, several PhD schools, and has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for international studies, with multiple programs taught entirely in English and over 1,500 international students representing dozens of nationalities.
